I’m sure this question has captured the attention of many among you, so let me give you some good news that will bring joy to all those dreaming to use on their EEE PC both Windows AND Linux (especially Xandros, the official Linux distribuzione ufficiale preinstalled on the Eee PC). I’ve finally tested with great results a solution that makes finally possibile the boot of Xandros Linux from a pendrive or SD card and the use of such Operating System without affecting the internal EEE PC SSD disk.
This make possibile, for example, to install on the internal SSD disk a different O.S., like Windows XP (using for example the backup and restore kit that installs Windows XP in ten minutes), and decide at the EEE PC boot, simply pressing the ESC key, if it’s going to load Windows XP or Xandros.
At the same time, there are various great advantages in having Xandros on an external memory unit (pendrive or SD), like the opportunity to assign different configurations to various individuals using the same EEE PC (for example members of the same family or club) or the chance to keep your own system, software and documents in your pocket thus increasing security and protection of your precious data, and of course the invaluable advantage of reducing the internal SSD use thus extending its life. This special 4 GB pendrive (or the same capcity SD card version) costs 45 euros and can be ordered, as usual, from the EEE PC SHOP on eBay, which ships in many parts of Europe.
